Projects and the problems behind them

A photograph of a finished display tells you very little. What matters is the constraint we were solving and the engineering decision that solved it.

Completed custom acrylic display projects

IllustrativeThese case studies describe the types of project and engineering problem we work on. They will be replaced with documented client projects, with permission, before launch. Client names are withheld until that consent is confirmed.

Selected work

Six projects, six constraints

Each of these began with a constraint that ruled out the obvious answer — which is usually where the interesting engineering is.

Modular countertop unit for a fragrance range

Modular countertop unit for a fragrance range

The brief
Replace a five-piece fixed tester arrangement with one modular unit that could be re-configured as the fragrance range changed each season.
Our approach
Designed a base tray with re-positionable risers and adjustable dividers, so the same unit serves tester and stock configurations. Tester row built from impact-modified acrylic; the visible display faces kept in optically polished cast acrylic. Lockable drawer integrated into the base.
Outcome
One tooling set now covers the whole range instead of five bespoke fixtures, and the unit is re-dressed in store rather than replaced at each launch.
Material
8 mm cast acrylic, impact-modified tester row
Finish
Diamond polished edges, frosted base
Hardware
Concealed cam lock, adjustable risers
Quantity

Anti-reflective vitrine for a textile exhibit
Museums & ExhibitionsRegional museum (name withheld)

Anti-reflective vitrine for a textile exhibit

The brief
A sealed display case for a fragile textile, where visitor reflections and internal condensation were both spoiling the viewing experience.
Our approach
Mitred-edge construction to remove visible bond lines, anti-reflective coated acrylic faces, and a concealed gasket with a conditioned-air chamber to control internal humidity. Materials selected to avoid off-gassing in a closed environment.
Outcome
Reflection removed from the primary viewing plane, and a stable internal microclimate sustained without active equipment.
Material
Anti-reflective coated cast acrylic
Construction
Mitred edges, concealed gasket
Environment
Passive humidity control chamber
Access
Lift-off lid with two-person handling points

Countertop units across a franchise estate
Retail & FranchiseFood-service franchise (name withheld)

Countertop units across a franchise estate

The brief
Identical countertop units for a multi-site rollout, fitted by store staff with no fitting resource and shipped directly to individual locations.
Our approach
Converted the design to flat-pack with tool-free assembly and tab-and-slot alignment. Froze one drawing, jigged the assembly, kept the tooling for reorders, and dispatched with per-location labelling and fitting instructions.
Outcome
Freight volume per unit reduced substantially against the pre-assembled alternative, and every site received an identical fixture.
Material
5 mm cast acrylic, frosted divider panels
Assembly
Tool-free flat-pack, tab-and-slot
Logistics
Direct-to-store, per-location labelling
Documentation
Per-unit inspection record

Lit watch display tower for a boutique
Jewellery & WatchesWatch retailer (name withheld)

Lit watch display tower for a boutique

The brief
Present a watch collection under light without the glare that direct spotlights were producing on sapphire crystals.
Our approach
Edge-lit acrylic shelf panels so illumination comes through the material rather than from above, with individually formed watch cradles so no piece rests on its case back or bracelet. Diffused rear panel to remove visible LED sources.
Outcome
Even illumination across the collection with no specular hotspots, and every watch presented at a consistent angle.
Material
10 mm cast acrylic shelves
Lighting
Edge-lit LED arrays, diffused rear panel
Inserts
Formed cradles, individual fit
Access
Removable front panel, keyed lock

Illuminated floor stand for a product launch
Electronics & TechnologyConsumer electronics brand (name withheld)

Illuminated floor stand for a product launch

The brief
A launch-period floor stand that made a new product unmissable, with demo units powered and secured.
Our approach
Backlit graphic panel with a frosted diffuser, concealed cable routing to each demo position, and keyed clamps for the devices. Power supply housed in a ventilated base sized to the devices’ actual heat dissipation.
Outcome
A stand that reads clearly across a shop floor, with demo devices that staff can release in seconds and no overheating in the enclosure.
Material
10 mm cast acrylic, frosted opal panels
Lighting
Backlit graphic panel, diffused
Security
Keyed clamps, concealed tethers
Thermal
Ventilated base, dissipation-matched

Adjustable eyewear fixture for seasonal ranges
Fashion & EyewearFashion eyewear brand (name withheld)

Adjustable eyewear fixture for seasonal ranges

The brief
A fixture that could present a changing frame range twice a year without new tooling, and survive heavy daily handling.
Our approach
Adjustable nose-bridge rests and re-positionable shelf pitches. Contact surfaces in impact-modified acrylic with hard anti-scratch coating, structural panels in cast acrylic for clarity. Spacing set so frames never touch each other.
Outcome
One fixture serves successive seasonal ranges, with the coating applied only where customers actually touch the unit.
Material
Impact-modified contact surfaces, cast acrylic structure
Adjustability
Re-positionable shelves and rests
Coating
Selective anti-scratch hard coat
Finish
Flame polished edges, frosted shelf faces

Your project will have a constraint too

That is the normal starting point, not an obstacle. Tell us what the display has to achieve and what it cannot do, and we will engineer around it.
